The West End Redbacks cruised to victory at the Adelaide Oval to claim the 2011 KFC t20 Big Bash title thanks to an 8 wicket victory over the SpeedBlitz Blues.
Cameron Borgas (62) and Daniel Harris (48) were the home side’s heroes with a 3rd wicket partnership of 100 to seal victory for the Redbacks after the home side had been set a run chase of 154.
Borgas lead the way smashing 3 fours and 2 sixes during his 39 delivery innings as the Redbacks proved to strong for the Blues.
With their first silverware in 15 years within touching distance the Redbacks got off to a good start with openers Daniel Harris and Michael Klinger building an opening stand of 42.
The pair made light work of the Blues opening attack as Stuart Clarke and Patrick Cummins proved to be expensive during the opening overs as the Redbacks aimed to break their title drought.
With the partnership looking set, Scott Coyte made the vital breakthrough for the visitors when he bowled Klinger (30) in the 5th over to halt the Redbacks great start.
Despite the lose of Aiden Blizzard (6) a couple of overs later, Harris and new partner Cameron Borgas continued the Redbacks great start as the pair easily built a 50 run partnership from just 6.3 overs.
With the pressure to make a breakthrough mounting on the Blues, Harris and Borgas easily played the ball into the gaps in the outfield to pick up easy singles as the run rate decreased to just 8 an over.
Having survived a close run out call at the start of the 15th over Borgas dispatched Coyte for two massive sixes to leave the home side needing just 32 runs from 30 deliveries mush to the delight of the near capacity crowd.
Borgas completed a well deserved half century before Harris all but ensured victory dispatching Henriques for a four and a six to reduce the Redbacks victory target to just 7 from 18 balls.
With the run starting to flow it was left to Borgas to complete a comprehensive victory with back to back boundaries of the bowling of Cummins in the 18th over to spark wild celebrations.
Having won the toss the Blues got off to a solid start thanks to David Warner and Smith who shared an opening stand of 33 as the pair targeted spinner Adil Rashid who conceded 21 runs from his first two overs.
Warner (21) led the way with two fours and a massive six before his innings was brought to an end when he was bowled by Kane Richardson in the 4th over much to the relief of the home fans who were happy to see the back of the Blues big hitting opener.
Phil Jaques (6) quickly followed; but despite the lose the Smith and Henriques continued to pressure the Redbacks bowlers with Nathan Lyon being the most expensive conceding 18 runs in the 10th over as the Blues reach 82-2 at the half way point.
The pair added 56 runs during a rapid 3rd wicket partnership for the visitors before Smith (43) was trapped LBW by Daniel Christian at the end of the 13th over.
With Smith gone the Redbacks took control of the game removing Ben Rohrer (15) and Dominic Thornely (0) in quick succession to leave the Blues 131-5 with just over 3 overs remaining.
With wickets starting to fall around him Henriques (41) tried to readdress the balance but his efforts were halted when his off stump bail was removed by a delivery from Aaron O'Brien in the 18th over.
The late order collapse continued as Scott Coyte (8) and Patrick Cummins (2) offered little with the bat as the Blues lost their last 5 wickets in the space of 30 deliveries to leave the Redbacks chasing a below par total.
