Victoria announce new Big Bash nicknames

     
  
Cricket fans in Melbourne will be cheering on the Stars and Renegades in next years expanded Big Bash League after the new teams nicknames were announced today.. The Stars will be based at the MCG and while across town the Renegades will be based at the Etihad Stadium in the new 8 team city based Big Bash tournament. "There is a lot at stake, both Melbourne teams will be playing for local bragging rights in our sports-mad city, national supremacy and ultimately the chance to play in the Champions League," said Cricket Victoria chief executive Tony Dodemaide. "For the players, the competition will bring enhanced career opportunities through increased international exposure," he added. Having guided the Victorian Bushrangers to four KFC Big Bash titles Greg Shipperd will take up the role of the Stars coach while his assistant from the Bushrangers, Simon Helmot, will be in charge of the Renegades. The city rivals will join the Sydney Thunder, Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat along with teams yet to be announced in Hobart, Adelaide and Perth.
