Southee adds strength to Eagles t20 squad

     
  
The Essex Eagles have announced the signing of New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee ahead of this summers Friends Life t20 tournament.

Southee, who is currently in India playing for the Chennai Super Kings will join his new teammates ahead of the Eagles clash against the Gloucestershire Gladiators on Friday 3rd June.

The Kiwi will join up with compatriot Scott Styris as the Eagles look to make their mark on the tournament after they crashed out of last years tournament in the semi finals against the eventual winners, the Hampshire Royals.

Essex Head Coach Paul Grayson said the County were delight to be able to announce the singing of Southee who will add strength to the Eagles t20 squad.

"His experience will be great for the team; he has had an excellent 18 months with New Zealand and so is going to be exciting to see him join up with the rest of the lads," he added.

"He has shown on the biggest stage that he is great with the white ball, but is also able to give it a strike down the batting order. Tim will be a real asset the team."

Chief Executive David East added "The signing of Tim Southee to the squad, which is already very strong, shows the intent we have at Essex."
